I like being close to the code.
I'm Sujai. I live in Bangalore and I've been writing software for seven years, mostly on mobile, web and AI products. I ran an engineering team for a few years, then went back to building full time. I'd rather ship than manage.
I was head of engineering at Dhiyo.ai, a 100X.VC-backed startup building voice AI for blue-collar job seekers in Indian languages. Since 2022 I've been at Blend, where I built the monetization system and a lot of the backend, and now work on the design tooling.
Most of my side-project energy goes into Utter, an open-source voice assistant that runs entirely on your own machine. I like local-first software. It's fast, it's private, and you can read the code.

Utter turns speech into desktop actions without sending anything to a server. It runs on Linux with Wayland, and on macOS in beta. Speech recognition, the decision head and the actions all run on your machine. Under the hood it is a small runner with pluggable parts for speech, language, perception, actions and voices, so anything can be swapped or read.
